since I updated. Forever. Sat, Jul. 31st, 2004, 04:53 pm intermission
Well, I just watched the first half of Lawrence of Arabia. Whee.. it said intermission, and I thought I'd better take advantage. Friend John is still amongst the missing. I wonder if I've offended him. Job interview went well. I've got a lead on another job and I've got to update my resume for it today. Not much else going on. Most people are out of town. Hope all is well with you all.
Well, I missed seeing local roads flooded. Kelly Drive (the road nearest the river) was flooded yesterday morning, but had been dried out by the time I got out of work. What else? Working on getting a new internship to replace the assistantship I'm leaving this year. In a week and a half, in fact. Still cleaning the apartment. Always cleaning the apartment, really. Playing around with singing, which is fun. Yes, a disjointed list, this. But I did post something. Pionts for effort? No? Fine, I'm going swimming then. Spash!
Sun, Jul. 25th, 2004, 10:03 pm Ooh..
I just realized that some of you hadn't heard about my grandfather's death. My bad. He died last April 18th. His memorial service was held on July 23, his birthday. He would have been 79. His ashes will probably become part of my grandmother's three acre expanse of gardens on their property.
So.. back from the family trip to New York for my grandfather's memorial service yesterday. I caught up on my chats with local friends today, I had sort of fallen off the face of the earth for a couple weeks. It was good to spend time with friends. Even if one of my friends is being difficult - or just busy. But it comes across as being difficult. I also spent part of the day organizing my life, whee. Hmm.. have a job interview tomorrow, although it's not a career job. Just a nice little part time, retail job that might have some creative aspects to it. I hope, anyway. But I really should get to bed and get some sleep for tomorrow. I also get to visit the DMV and figure out how to change my lisence/registration/insurance. whee again. Hope all of you are doing well.
Ok, so the subject line said everything. still, it's all good.
Tue, Jul. 20th, 2004, 10:41 pm Woo..
So, it's been forever since I posted anything. hello to all you out there, if you are still looking out for my posts. Another friend of mine suggested I try this, so i thought maybe it was time to revive my old blog. Unfortunatly I'm kinda hungover at this point, so it's not the best time to revive my blog. oh well. Doesn't matter. Hi there, I missed you guys!
Thu, Oct. 23rd, 2003, 06:31 pm Another day..
Another cookie baked. I've been making cookies alot lately. I wonder what that means, from a psychological standpoint. Anyone want a cookie? They are spiced ginger cookies, very yummy. 6 weeks left till school is out and the semester is over. I can't wait. I'm far too busy this semester. Maybe I'll manage a better balance in the spring. Hope everyone is well
I hapened to be online and saw the journal icon in my doc (or is it dock?) .. Anyway, the quick update. I'm spending most of my energy trying to find an apartment in Philly close to school. I'm finishing up my hat making class (summer fun!) and trying to chill before work starts in August. whee... Hope everyone is having a good summer.
Well, grumbly bf things again. Maybe one day I won't have a pathetic relationship. grumble, grumble, blarg. In other news, sent off the grad apps today. So that's looking up. I registered for my summer classes - not credit, but interesting (to me) - I'm gonna learn how to make hats. whee... My grandmother gave me her old leather sewing machine - she bought it from a shoe factory's going out of business sale. I'm hoping to learn how to make shoes.. or sandals at least. I just need a little band saw now. And some nails and glue. Heh. Still job hunting. It's kind of on hold right now though - I'm waiting to see if I get accepted to grad school. Ok, it's pretty likely I will, but i want to make sure before ordering my life around this program. I think today I shall be morose. At least partially. Then I'll get over it, and find something interesting to do. Maybe I'll set up the new/old sewing machine. Hmm..
Sat, May. 3rd, 2003, 07:03 pm well.. stuff..
Not much going on, but I thought I'd better keep up my journal writing momentum. Stop laughing. ;) Still job hunting, still applying to grad school. Trying to get myself some contacts in the textile field, both for information and maybe a job (hopehopehope). In other news.. there isn't much. Well, trying to work out a schedule to visit jason that works for both of us. Bleh. I'm thinking it's time to go through old photos and make scrap books of the family ones, and archives of the other ones. It's better than tripping over them. Been getting back into sewing - taking a little, no credit class locally that hopefully will teach me some of the finer points of sewing. And hat making, which should be fun. Hi to jyf.. I am trying to get back to visiting journal-land more often. I swear.
Yup.. i flitter in and out, aparently. Just changed my email address... waaaaaay too much spam porn. And offers to open a dollar store in my neighborhood. Oi. We'll see if this reduces it. Anyway.. I'm getting around to that grad school application now. I have one class left.. of my one class left. Since I have an 101 average in that class, I can skip the final. Yay. So.. fiber arts in the fall, probably. Unfortunatly the school i want to go to doens't have a scholarship program.. I just have to pay. But I have to get accepted first. Right now I'm taking a break from writing my resume.. since i still don't have a job. Sigh. I don't like being broke. On the other hand, I've been catching up on my pop culture. Jason had a DVD of old twilight zone episodes, so we watched them last night. Some are so silly.. Mostly i've been sewing though. Since in the fall I'll be busy with school and work (I hope) I'm trying to get as much done as possible. I realised i don't really like sewing.. it's just the best way to get clothes that actually fit right. Sucks to be tall sometimes. Keith has been talking about puting up a website now for a long time, but it's hard to pin him down. I'll post it when it gets put together. Well.. back to the resume.
a summer thunderstorm to celibrate the begining of spring. Well, the brother decided he wanted to eat in a little general store that doesn't sell food. So we had an interesting trip through the backwoods. I did manage to get a bat cookie cutter though. Yay, bat cookies! I have to write to a company that coordinates self-publishing - see if they'll give me a job. But right now it looks like I'm being asked to move furnature. Enthralled.. too good to pass up.
New news is that we're taking up the carpet at my house. The weather is gloomy and rainy, but a decent temp. I took a 30 min nap because I could, but Jason called and woke me up. Cause he's silly. Since I'm nearly awake, I have cleaning to do. Most of my studio is moving up to what used to be the great room. The good side of this is that I'll do more work. It's more accessable and there's more room. I'm very taken by the weather outside the window. Rain like this makes everything darker, and the colors richer. The trees are vibrant greens and ocher lacy patterns aginst dark trunks. The ground and sky are lighter, but less visible. and the pattern of raindrops provides a blury counterpoint. Day by day grad school looks more likely. I did want to get a job, and then work school around that. But work is hard to come by, it seems. Time to get up and move fabric. I have projects calling my name ... ps - my dear bluejyf: it's lovely skiing weather in hadies these days. ;-p
Tue, Mar. 18th, 2003, 02:31 pm back online..
My computer lost all my internet data.. and I was lazy and let it sit for a couple weeks before reloading it. So I'm back. I've been doing alot of fiber arts recently - I just learned to knit. Still working on cleaning (with the help of ebay) and looking for a job. I have a feeling that no one'll hire till the whole war-thing is worked out. grr. Not much else - the weather is beautiful: mild and overcast and there aren't any bugs yet. I spend alot of time outdoors these days. Hmm.. maybe a more reflective post will be comming soon. Right now - time to make more tea.
Ok, so Valentines day is the start of the Lucky Charms Holidays (red hearts, green clovers..) Jason called me this morning to say happy valentines day, then imediatly informed me he didn't buy into the halmark created holidays. I looked it up online (the bastion of all truth, heh) and learned it was a church modification of a pagan Roman holiday. Shock there (if it's true) In completly different news, I got a table for my dye studio yesterday. Put it in there today, cleaned, and got cooking. Litterally. I'm mordanting some yarn right now. I also bought a bit of silk and wool in light colors to shibori. The silk came today, it's a peachy-pink. I think it'll make a great rusty-burgandy, or a purpley-blue. Not sure yet. I still have to buy the seeds and planters. I'm not too worried yet, still snow on the ground and more coming over the weekend. Still sending out resumes. Sent one to the company my father works for today. I worked there a couple of times as a summer intern/help. Maybe that'll help me get a job. It's a pretty good company, and they like hiring family members of current employes. I'll see if it works in my favor. My car is still in the shop. There was an ignition coil recall-type thing. Well, mine broke, and I didn't feel safe driving any faster than I can walk. So I had it towed to the shop, and they have the part on order. I'll be picking up a rental car on Monday. Jalen: I bought a book on design in/through time, and a book about language. I was there for my geography book. Mom asks if you know a Claire Gutwien (or similar sounding) at school. Happy Valentines Halmark/church/pagan day to everybody!
Picked out my seeds today. I'm going to grow dye plants - or at least try. I asked my dad for help (since he's the avid gardener). He made all sorts of bad puns about getting plants that aren't dying plants, etc. Oi. I've gotten my sewing skills up to the 'one simple item of clothing a day' level. I found some hideous printed corduroy earlier today. It was in a box from my grama's attic. White corduroy with pink, gold and brown floral pattern printed on. I'm working on a way to use it to it's fullest .. um, level of pain, really. Just cause it's fun. Sometimes I'm a clothing sadist, aparently. Right now I'm completing my next fabric order. Mostly white and light colors, so I can dye them darker. Woohoo. And a "you know you are a geek when" moment: The other day I was buying textbooks at the college bookstore, and I ended up buying books for classes I'm not taking, cause they looked interesting. And I'm reading them too.
Probably not too new. But anyway. Since I mostly use my mac, and writing journal entries on the livejournal page sucks - I found a 3rd party thingy-boo to fix that. But not my grammar, aparently. Well, what's new here? Probably the half a foot or more of snow outside. Very pretty, especially from the nice, warm indoors. I can sip my red tea and look out on the winter wonderland. In other news.. the boy is having "I'm turning 30" quirky issues this month. Hi to boy, if he's reading this. Heh. He sounds very blah every time I talk with him. Maybe he'll be better next month. Been doing lots of sewing, and some scanning of slides. I am planning to use my tax refund on fabric to shibori. Well, that and an iPod. Yay, music. No brilliant revelations to share today.
Wed, Jan. 29th, 2003, 06:57 pm crash course..
I'm not a raver tho. Well, it's been .. I dunno.. 6 months? Happy Birthday to all those whose b-days I missed. So, a quick update of what's happened since I quit my job in Oct (probably the last time I wrote anything): I'm taking 1 class, doing alot of sewing, making some forays into publishing on my own, learning new software, looking for a new job, hanging out with the family, friends and boyfriend (Jason), and hoping to get a little garden started soon. With any luck I'll also have a new website and journal format, etc, in March.
Well, today I made the official decision that school is more important that my job. Okay, so alot of things were more important than my job. Anyway, as of October, I'll be unemployed. Whee.
I'm both very happy, and sad.
I also have time to put together a decent webpage now. Yay! Now begining in two weeks, that is.
I had a dream this past week (I think it was a dream - it had teh dreem image feel) of California. I was overcome with a longing to stand on the west coast and see the sun setting over the Pacific.
Word of the day: sentient Music: dot matrix printer office symphony Mood: stillness.. and hunger. Time for lunch. |
